Parag Honour List (PHL) is a curated collection of outstanding books in English and Hindi for children and young adults. A recognition by the Parag Initiative of Tata Trusts, PHL is published annually along with brief annotation about each title. The first edition of PHL was launched in 2020 with the latest in June 2024.
Each year, the list is created after careful screening and reviews by an independent jury comprising of experts in the Indian children’s literature sector.
Over the years, PHL has received 1,230 submissions from 76 publishers across India and has featured 225 outstanding original books for early readers, young readers, and young adults across fiction, non-fiction, and poetry genres.
One gap that has been highlighted in recent times is the lack of a comprehensive curated list of good quality children’s books that libraries, teachers, and parents can refer to while procuring children’s books.
PHL aims to fulfil this gap by recognizing a diverse range of quality Indian children’s literature that can be easily referred to. Parag works with the jury, publishers, authors, illustrators, and bookstores to promote the curated list through online and on-ground modalities garnering much-needed limelight and visibility to Indian children’s literature and their creators.
