A curated collection of outstanding books in English and in Hindi, for children and young adults, by the Parag Initiative of Tata Trusts. This list, published annually, comprises noteworthy books of the year with brief information about each title. It has been created with careful screening and multiple reviews by experts in the children’s literature sector. The list aims to promote access to a comprehensive curated list of good quality children’s literature that librarians, teachers, parents and children can refer to and read.

Parag Honour List was first launched in January 2020 at the New Delhi World Book Fair. We received books from 25+ publishers on various themes for the age group 0-16 years. The books comprised of original writings in the category of picture books, young readers and young adults, in fiction, non-fiction and poetry.

Parag is reaching out to schools, libraries, bookstores and parents and book fairs with the sole purpose of promoting high quality books through Parag Honour List.

Inviting Entries for the Parag Honour List 2021

One gap that has been highlighted in recent times is the lack of a comprehensive curated list of good quality children’s books that libraries, teachers, parents can refer to while procuring children’s books. To fill this gap, Parag publishes an Annual Honour List. The list comprises of outstanding books of that year with annotation and details about each book.

Criteria for the submission of books for Parag Honour List 2021

  • Books will be reviewed in Hindi and English languages with original writings only 
  • Translated books will not be accepted
  • Focused age-group is 0-16 years
  • Please send the books from these categories- Picture books, chapter books, and young adult.
  • Books published between the period of October 2019 to September 2020 will be eligible for this year’s honour list
  • Send five copies of each title
  • The cut-off date for PHL 2021 list will be 30th September 2020
  • The final list will come out in December 2020

Send books for each quarter by the first week of the following month 

  • Quarter 1 & 2– October 2019 to March 2020
  • Quarter 3 – April 2020 to June 2020
  • Quarter 4 – July 2020 to September 2020

We invite publishers for the year 2021 to send their books to the address mentioned below for review and selection.

Booklist on Mental Health and Wellbeing

Children’s literature is an important means of imaginative engagement not just in promoting overall growth and development, but also has a critical role in wellbeing. Children’s literature has a role to play in helping children talk about a range of issues such as gender, caste and class. Parag New Release

Parag supports publication of original stories and translations for children across the age group of 3-16 years. The main aim is to provide access to good quality story books for children in Indian languages. A wide range and variety of books have been released through various publishers and we are happy to share an array of new stories for different age groups with you.

Parag Catalogue

The Parag catalogue provides a sneak peak into the books supported since 2005, their central themes and ideas. The books are categorized according to age groups and genres. However, the categorization is suggestive and their most effective usage lies in the hands of readers/story tellers/educators/parents. Books marked for ages 6+ can be read aloud to young children, while Teachers’ Resource books can be read by teens. Books are listed under one category to avoid duplication. This annotated catalogue lists the books published by the Trusts’ partners, under picture books, poems, young readers, activity Books and teachers’ resource books.
