Parag Awards – Honouring Excellence in Children’s Literature
Over the last two decades, authors, illustrators and publishers have given voice to Indian children’s literature with stories that talk to children and young readers about who they are, and help them navigate a multicultural and multilingual environment. The authors and illustrators have tried to balance the traditional with the contemporary to reflect the Indian reality in content, visual and production. They have given us stories that are not didactic but layered and sensitive, illustrations that fight social stereotypes, are inclusive, bring humour into books, and an enriching reading experience.
Parag Awards is a one-of-a-kind award that recognises and honours authors and illustrators for a literary contribution to children’s literature in India through a repertoire of works.
Parag Awards has three categories – Parag Author Prize, Parag Illustrator Prize and Parag-BLBA Significant Contribution Award. The Author and Illustrator Prizes are awarded annually to authors and illustrators who are nascent in the journey for writing and illustrating for children, holds freshness, and are promising. The Significant Contribution Award takes place biennially, awarded to illustrators for their significant contribution to children’s literature through a body of work.
The Author Prize and the Illustrator Prize will be awarded for the first time in 2025. The first BLBA Significant Contribution Award (Big Little Book Award) was awarded in 2016 and since then six authors and seven illustrators have received the Award.
