The term ‘freedom struggle’ conjures images of iconic leaders, yet there were millions of others who contributed to India’s independence, displaying remarkable courage and sacrifice at their own small levels. जसिंता की डायरी में झारखंड और ओडिशा के आदिवासियों के संग बिताए गए उनके अनुभव और उनकी कुछ कविताएँ संकलित हैं। जसिंथा स्वयं एक आदिवासी परिवार से हैं। शायद इसलिए उनके वर्णन में खास यह है कि हमें आदिवासी जीवन का एक ‘इन्साइडर व्यू’ देखने को मिलता है। उनके जीवन के कई पहलुओं का वह बड़े अपनेपन से वर्णन करती हैं। परंतु इसके साथ ही इस खूबसूरत जीवन के निरंतर होते विध्वंस के दर्द का स्वर लगातार सुनाई देता है। इसके बावजूद जसिंथा ने इंसानियत पर अपने गहरे भरोसे को बचाकर रखा है क्योंकि वह मानती हैं कि इस दुनिया को सिर्फ़ प्रेम ही बचा कर रख सकता है।
इस क़िताब में आपको चित्रों में कवितायेँ और कविताओं में चित्र मिलेंगे। यह तो हम जानते हैं कि पेड़ कितने ज़रूरी हैं पर शायद पेड़ों को रंगरेज़ की तरह न देखा हो। यह किताब प्रकृति का ‘शेड कार्ड’ है। बसंत में कचनार, जकरन्दा और सिल्क फ्लॉस से रंगी जमीन की याद दिलाती है। हर रंग से पहले सुशील शुक्ल की कविताएँ प्रकृति को और करीब ले आती हैं। सड़क और घर के दीवारों पर फैले बोगनविलिया से रिश्ता ही बदल जाता है। फूलों और फलों से रंग बनाने की विधि काफ़ी स्पष्ट है और आपको प्रयोग करने के लिए आमंत्रित ज़रूर करेगी।
हमारे गाँव में रामलीला क्यों नहीं होती? इतनी दूर ठंड में किसी और गाँव में क्यों जाना पड़ता है रामलीला देखने? नौ साल की गोपु को अपनी इस सहज जिज्ञासा का कोई सीधा जवाब अपने बड़ों से नहीं मिलता। बस यही जानने की धुन में वह तरह-तरह से लोगों से बात निकलवाने का प्रयास करती रहती है, कभी अपने पुलिस पापा को मस्खा लगाती है तो कभी अपने दोस्त के साथ छानबीन में लग जाती है। गोपु और उसके पापा के बीच का बेकल्लुफ़ रिश्ता, दादी और अन्य किरदार और उत्तराखंड के गाँव के जीवन का जीवंत चित्रण इस लघु उपन्यास को और भी दिलचस्प बनाता है।
यह एक छोटे बच्चे की कहानी है जो मानता है कि वह एक चिड़िया है। वह उड़ना चाहता है लेकिन चाहकर भी वह इसे बता नहीं पाता। उसे उम्मीद है कि शायद उसे पहचान लेंगे पर वह हर बार नाउम्मीद होता है। लेकिन बोल नहीं पाता। निधि दृश्यों के सहारे कहानी उकेरती हैं और बता न पाने की घुटन और पहचान न पाने की कसक हमें भीतर तक महसूस कराती हैं। ‘चिड़िया उड़’ उन सभी की कहानी है जो अपने ‘आसमान’ में उड़ने के लिए आज़ाद नहीं थे और उनकी भी है जो यह पहचान न पाए।
