The Parag Initiative of Tata Trusts in collaboration with Government of Delhi hosted its annual Children’s Library UnConference 2019 on the theme ‘Libraries as Vibrant Spaces’. Deputy Chief Minister Mr. Manish Sisodia delivered the key note address to 102 nodal librarians and government officials on the importance of an active and vibrant school library.
The UnConference witnessed discussions around improving school libraries, the process for procuring quality children’s literature and the need for building the skills of librarians and teachers to engage children with reading. Through the day the librarians worked in groups to delve deeper into the different elements of an active children’s library. They were engaged through three masterclasses — ‘What is a Good Book’, ‘Interaction with Fiction, Non-fiction and Poetry in the Library’ and ‘Bringing alive the Library Space with Activities.”
The participants immersed themselves in mapping the existing library work in the schools. The sessions involved exchanging knowledge, discussing experiences, doing activities together, learning from experts and deep diving into the thematic topics. They were also exposed to a display of varied children’s literature curated by Parag over its years of work in the sector.
