This story of a child being bullied is touching yet not overtly sentimental. The school’s lake and fictional characters from books become his friends and escape till he realises that he is not alone — there are others too, bullied for being different. Furthermore, it is a surprisingly good book designed for reading fluency, with good editing and a well-rounded ending. The subdued palette used for illustrations add to the quiet form of storytelling.

Children love books about animals, and this book captures the most apparent and intimate aspects of children’s relationship with animals. The excellent illustrations bring out the personalities of Amit and the injured puppy very well.
