This sensitive and wonderful story on inclusion and friendship, and portrays empathy beautifully. Adil communicates through sign language, or as his friends see it words dancing to the and music within him. The book does not glorify Adil. Instead, it portrays him as a child who cannot hear but is able to communicate differently from other children around him. The illustrations play an enhancing role in this book.
Who’s Next is a big book. The illustration is so rich and vivid that children and adults alike are bound to find joy in it. The simple narrative is told through the eyes of a child by the window watching an urban wedding entourage pass by. The illustrations offer a parallel narrative, and looking closely, the reader will find elements of inclusions portrayed intelligently, and with wit.
लाइटनिंग, यह सुन्दर और कल्पनाशील नाम है एक बाघिन का, जिसके इर्द गिर्द यह कहानी बुनी गई है। कहानी बाघिन के बारे में रूढ़ मान्यताओं को दरकिनार करते हुए उसकी नैसर्गिकता को सामने लाती है। उसके अपने घर व घर के अन्य बाशिंदों के साथ प्यार और चाहत के रिश्तों को उभारती है। और उभारती है मानव समुदाय की जंगल जीवों के प्रति उस आत्मीय जवाबदेही को जिसके बिना पर ही इन सबका जीवन संभव और सुखद लगता है। सधी हुई भाषा में ताजगी, सादगी और रवानगी है। सभी चित्र बेमिसाल है खासकर तब का जब ‘चाँद को गर्व हो रह था…कुछ ही देर पहले वह यहाँ थी’ और बाघिन के वहाँ होने को चित्र में उकेरा गया है।
इस नन्हीं-सी कल्पनाशील कविता को बार-बार पढ़ने की अभिलाषा होती है शायद अगली बार कुछ अर्थ या भाव बन सके। कुछेक बार पढ़ने पर ही कविता से निकटता बन पाती है । प्रकृति के सन्दर्भ में खोल शब्द से कई मायने बनते बदलते रहते हैं। संभवतः कविता कहती है , खोल के प्रस्तुत प्रकृति में कुछ भी छुपाए या चुराए जाने का डर नहीं है, यह तो दुनिया है, जो चप्पे-चप्पे तालों में है । सुकून देते चित्र कविता के भाव को कुछ और आगे ले जाते हैं। लेखन की केलीग्राफ़ी सुन्दर व कविता के भावों के अनुरूप है। कविता को शब्दशःयाद करना भले संभव न हो, फिर कभी दुबारा पढ़ने पर कुछ नया कहने, गुनगुनाने वादा ज़रूर करती है।
‘बेटियाँ भी चाहें आज़ादी’ ताक़त और विश्वास के साथ स्त्रियों की हरसंभव स्वाधीनता की उद्घोषणा करती है। यहाँ साधारण से लगने वाले वाक्य भी नारों जैसी तात्कालिकता और ओजस्विता प्राप्त कर लेते हैं।जीवन के हर क्षेत्र में हर तरह की आज़ादी के बग़ैर स्त्री-पुरुष समानता संभव नहीं है।यह किताब संविधान प्रदत्त अधिकारों और मन की बात कहने की आज़ादी की माँग करती है।आकर्षक चित्रों से सज्जित यह किताब बेटियों की पू्र्ण स्वाधीनता का घोषणा-पत्र है।
