22 दिसम्बर 1952 को कानपुर (उ.प्र.) में जन्मे प्रियंवद की पूरी शिक्षा कानपुर में हुयी। उन्होने ‘प्राचीन भारतीय इतिहास एवं संस्कृति’ में एम. ए की परीक्षा पास की। इसी दौरान, इतिहास के साथ साथ प्रियंवद का गहरा लगाव साहित्य से भी बढ़ता रहा। इसी का परिणाम है कि उन्होंने साहित्य और इतिहास दोनों पर पुस्तकें लिखीं हैं।
अब तक उनके पाँच उपन्यास, सम्पूर्ण कहानियों का बड़ा संग्रह, इतिहास की चार पुस्तकों के साथ, बाल साहित्य की पाँच पुस्तकें प्रकाशित हैं। इन पाँच पुस्तकों में कहानी संग्रह के अलावा एक उपन्यास और एक इतिहास की पुस्तक शामिल है।
प्रियंवद पिछले पच्चीस वर्षों से हिन्दी की प्रतिष्ठित पत्रिका ‘अकार’ का प्रकाशन व पिछले 8 वर्षों से सम्पादन कर रहे हैं। उनकी कहानियों पर दो फीचर फिल्म और एक शॉर्ट फिल्म भी बनी है। पिछले 30 वर्षों से साहित्यकारों के प्रतिष्ठित सम्मेलन ‘संगमन’ के 26 आयोजनों के संयोजक हैं।
साहित्य और इतिहास की अनेक दुर्लभ किताबों वाली अपनी विशाल लाइब्रेरी को, अपनी रचनाओं का श्रेय देने वाले प्रियंवद कानपुर में रहते हैं।
Born on 22 December in 1952, Priyamvad grew up in Kanpur. He did his Masters in Ancient Indian History and Culture in Kanpur. While growing up, Priyamvad came to love literature as much as history. This interest made him a writer of both history and literature.
Priyamvad has published five novels, a large collection of short stories, four books on history and five books for children. His works for children include a novel and a book on history. For 25 years, Priyamvad has published a Hindi magazine ‘Akaar’, which he has edited for 8 years now. His stories have been adapted into two feature films and a short film. He has curated 26 events at the prestigious literary festival ‘Sangaman’ over the last 30 years.
Priyamvad continues to live in Kanpur. He attributes his success as a writer to his huge library which includes rare books in Hindi.
